At TopShade, we install our solar shading systems directly onto the glass. This installation method is particularly suitable for rooflights, roof windows, skylights and other glazed roof structures.
One of the major advantages of mounting directly onto the glass is that there is no need to drill into the roof or existing structure. This means no significant modifications to the structure are required, helping to preserve its original structural integrity. It also eliminates the risk of leaks caused by drilling through the roof.
Durable Installation Using Specialised Mounting Tape
For the installation of our horizontal solar shading systems, we use high-quality viscoelastic double-sided mounting tape with a durable acrylic foam core. The tape is applied directly to the glass and, following careful surface preparation, creates a strong and durable bond.
Thanks to its viscoelastic properties, the tape can accommodate controlled movement when subjected to loads and stresses. This allows the bond to better absorb movement and stress compared with conventional foam tapes.
This mounting method provides an effective alternative to traditional fixing methods such as screws, rivets, blind rivets and welding. The result is a clean and virtually invisible installation, without unnecessary damage to the glass or roof structure.
The mounting tape we use has been used since 1980 by leading companies across a wide range of professional industries, including construction, aerospace, rail, commercial vehicles, electronics, signage, windows and doors, furniture and household appliances.
Careful Surface Preparation Is Essential
The performance of a tape bond is influenced by the conditions during installation. Factors such as temperature, humidity, cleaning and preparation of the glass, as well as the condition and quality of the substrate, all play an important role.
For professional installations, the glass is therefore prepared according to a carefully prescribed procedure. This is essential to achieve optimal and long-lasting adhesion.

At TopShade, quality and professional workmanship are our top priorities. For solar shading systems installed by TopShade, we provide the following warranty under normal use:
- 2-year warranty on the product
- 2-year warranty on the installation
The warranty is subject to the terms and conditions set out in our warranty policy and General Terms and Conditions.
As the final adhesion of a tape bond depends partly on the conditions under which it is applied, we are unable to offer a longer warranty period for the tape connection.
The warranty described above is our commercial warranty and does not limit any statutory rights that consumers may have.
Self-Installation of the TopBlind L and TopBlind XL
Would you prefer to install the solar shading system yourself? The TopBlind L and TopBlind XL are also available as self-installation kits.
Each kit includes:

- A comprehensive installation manual;
- All the necessary information for correct installation onto the glass.
With self-installation, careful preparation and cleaning of the glass are essential. The prescribed preparation procedure must be followed precisely to ensure optimal adhesion of the mounting tape.
TopShade does not provide an installation warranty for installation carried out by the customer or for the resulting tape bond. The product warranty remains applicable, provided that any defect is not the result of incorrect installation, preparation, use or maintenance.
